Forge Philosophy 5-7-08

“The lion in the jungle makes every other animal sit up and take notice as soon as he lets out a roar. He didn’t get that way through artificial paraphernalia or through springs and wires and trick dumbells. He became the king of the jungle through constant natural use of every muscle in his body.”
~ Charles Atlas

Today, the Forge conducted a “tractor pull”….5 tire flips, 15 pullups for 5 rounds. I got it done in 6:29.

I am lion, hear me roar.

Random thoughts on Indy CrossFit

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

First of all, we are coming into summer and new people will start gracing our doors.  Let’s try to make them feel welcome and encourage their participation.

Vince and I ordered some bad ass new t-shirts for Indy CrossFit and they should be in shortly.  I am PROMISING YOU that these will go quickly, so if you want one please pay for one promptly.  We had a lot of people ask about our hoodies, and they were sold out within a week.  These are cooler and better then the hoodies.  Everyone and their mother will want one of these.

This is especially for Neal T.  There will be no Suffer on Saturday this Saturday (May 10), however, we will do a workout on Sunday.  My wife, who happens to be a mother, said that we should do it in the morning since everyone will be taking their wives, mothers etc. out for lunch.  So my thought is that we will do this at 8:30 SUNDAY morning.

I believe I have finally solved our video problem.  Stay tuned for future video.  And if it works…we may be doing a LOT of video.

As always questions, comments and general queries welcomed.  If you aren’t here at Indy CrossFit, I don’t know where else you would be.

Forge Philosophy 5-5-08

Monday, May 5th, 2008

“You would fain be victor at the Olympic games, you say. Yes, but weigh the conditions, weigh the consequences; then and then only, lay to your hand-if it be for your profit. You must live by rule, submit to diet, abstain from dainty meats, exercise your body perforce at stated hours, in heat or in cold; drink no cold water, nor, it may be, wine. In a word, you must surrender yourself wholly to your trainer, as though to a physician.”
– Epictetus, (c.A.D. 50-c.A.D. 138)

Today, victims at the Forge celebrated “cinco de suffer” which consisted of 55 cal row, 55 overhead lunges with 55lbs, 55 cal row, 55 presses with 55 lbs, 55 cal row, and 55 jump squats with 55lbs.

In hindsight, I should’ve called this cinco de suckfest.

“That which we persist in doing becomes easier, not that the task itself has become easier, but that our ability to perform it has improved. ”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882), essayist, poet, philosopher

Today, the Forge worked for 20 minutes and completed as many rounds as possible of 10 thrusters (65) and 10 burpees….I completed just under 9 rounds. Wednesday, it was 10 deadlifts (185), 400m run and 20 wallballs for 3 rounds.
