Forge Philosophy 3-31-08

Today, the forge completed the following: 5 rds of 500m row, 20 deadlifts (115) and 10 power cleans (115).

I thought I’d include a recent article from the New York Times that you may find enjoyable…apparently, according to the author, we’re all a little nuts.

Calling all future TV stars…

Our good friend Dave Patania from WTHR is going to do another shoot at Indy CrossFit.  I know this is last second, however, I need 3 or 4 people to be there for some self defense video.  We are going to start at noon.  It WILL NOT be a live shot, however, it will be shown on Monday morning.  So, if you want to get your mug on TV show up tomorrow at noon at Indy CrossFit with your Indy CrossFit T’shirts, sweatshirts, or long sleeve T’s.

Random Thoughts on CFT

Here are my random thoughts…Vince is strong.  Finished with a 900 total, only the 3rd person at Indy CrossFit to touch the 900 mark.  Great job. 

Debbie is strong.  Went over 425 total with a big 155lb squat.  Awesome. 

Jon McD. is knock, knock, knockin’ on 900’s door with an 895 total. So close.

Scott, Rodrigo and Justin did a fantastic job on their first CFT’s, and Scott may be inching up to that 900 total before he knows it. 

Dawnie missed a 305lb deadlift by inches, and Sullivan missed a 415lb deadlift by millimeters. 

Great job to everyone, and it is humbling to see so many people work so hard to better themselves.

Monday 3-24

The AM Crew did 800 m row, 21 Thrusters, 21 Situps, 21 Box Jumps, 21 Kettlebell Swings, 21 Ring Dips and an 800 m row.  Our PM Crew started doing this workout, but we had to change to a 600 m run in the middle of it.  I did this in 13:02.

Tuesday 3-25

Getting ready for CrossFit Total.  Worked technique on the squat, overhead press, and deadlift.

Wednesday 3-26

The AM Crew did rounds in 20 minutes of 5 Push Press (115lb), 10 wallball, 15 double unders.  I did 13 1/3 rounds.  The PM “A” Crew (I have split them up) did the aforementioned workout, while the “B” Crew did 4 rounds of 400 m run, 12 Dumbbell Thrusters, 12 Pullups, 12 Box jumps.

A big shout out to Dawn H. for placing 3rd at the Shamrock Games in Springfield, IL.  I, on the other hand did not do so well.  However, the wind chill at the start of the games was a blistering 22 degrees F.  If you are interested in Highland Games check out www.hoosierscots.com and www.nasgaweb.com for more info.

Forge Philosophy 3-24-08

Today at the Forge, we accomplished the following: 5 rds of 20 wallballs, 15 double unders, and 10 weighted pullups (15lbs). I completed this in 12:39.

We’ve got a couple of people who come to the forge regularly who have been “zoning” for a couple of weeks and they are seeing and feeling amazing results. I’m extremely proud of their commitment and can only hope others follow their example. For those who are finding it difficult to “hold on”, I have four words for you courtesy of Bayan’s t-shirt today: shut up and train.

3/18 Tuesday

Nasty heavy lunge day.  I finished at 185lb lunges for 5.  I know it sounds easy until you do it.  I was sweating like a sow at the butcher.

3/19 Wednesday

We rowed a 5k.  Pretty simple and straight forward.  I finished this in 19:43.

3/20 Thursday

Did some weighted bodyweight stuff.  Weighted pullups, pushups, and dips. 

IMPORTANT

No Suffer on Saturday this Saturday.  Dawn and I will be heading to Springfield, IL. for the Shamrock Highland Games.

Forge Philosophy 3-19-08

Today, members of the forge joined the AM class for some rowing action in the form of a 5k for time..this was my first time rowing a 5k, and let’s just say I didn’t find anything “magical” about it – unless you count the stars I started to see towards the end…21:32.

Yesterday, the forge completed the following: 21-15-9 of deadlifts (225) and jump-over burpees. I did this in 8:45…..Curious to know what jump-over burpees are? Come to the forge and we will show you…

Friday 3/14

“Tabata Friday”

I think everyone was pretty smoked after this workout.  We did Tabata Intervals on Pushups, Squats, Wallballs, Push Press and Box Jumps.  If you don’t know what a Tabata is…you need to come into Indy CrossFit to find out.

Saturday 3/15

A nice little team workout.  600 m run (all this was as a team), 500 Double Unders, 500 Thrusters, 500 Situps and a 600 m run.  I am going to be honest and say that my legs were quite sore.

Also, we had a Highland Games Clinic with Lannie Pullon after the workout and we had 4 Indy CrossFit members participate.  Great job to Jon, Drew and Dawn who worked hard all day, and a big thank you to Lannie for taking the time to show us how to do it right.

Monday 3/17

AM Crew did rounds in 20 minutes of 7 pushups, 7 pullups, 7 knees to elbows.  I completed 11 1/3 rounds.  Was not feeling it, but I will keep plugging away until I do.  That is the beautiful thing about CrossFit…some days you are at the top of your game, other days you have to grind.

PM Crew did 77 pushups, 77 pullups, 77 knees to elbows, 77 wallballs, 77 box jumps for time.  Nasty workout.  Great job to all those who braved this workout on St. Patty’s Day.

Friday 3/7

I won’t explain what the morning crew did, because even explaining it to my morning crew in person, I still don’t think they understood what was going on.  Anyway, the PM Crew did 7 Pullups, 7 KB Swings, 7 Burpees as many rounds in 15 minutes as possible.

Saturday 3/8

We did “Grannie” which is a combo of Grace and Annie.  5 rounds for time with 6 135lb clean and jerk, 30 double unders and 30 situps.  I think I did this in 14:27.

Sunday 3/9

Did the Fundamentals Class.  Had a nice turnout and a great time.  If you have not had the chance to get to one of our classes you should.  They are the second Sunday of each month, and we work purely technique…plus, it is free to all members.

Monday

AM Crew did 400 m Row, 10 Hand Stand Pushups, 20 Dumbbell Thrusters, 30 Box Jumps…3 rounds for time.  I did this in 18:33

PM Crew did “Helen”.  3 rounds with a 400 m run, 21 kb swings, 12 pullups for time.

As a bonus I will throw Tuesday in here.  On Tuesday we did heavy push press.  I finished at 3 x 235lb.
